Dog walking and dog training clothing has come a long way, or is starting to at least. For years, the options were country clothing that looked good but did not function for active handlers, or generic outdoor gear that functioned but looked like you had grabbed it from a hiking shop on the way out.
There is a third option now - and it is the one that serious trainers across the UK and US/Canada are building their wardrobe around.
This guide covers how to build a dog walking and training wardrobe that works in every season, looks sharp, and actually holds up to regular use.

Why dog walking clothing matters
If you walk or train your dog daily, you are wearing your kit in the equivalent of a part-time job. It needs to be comfortable in a wide range of temperatures, weatherproof, easy to wash, and practical enough to actually use during a session.
The right wardrobe means you are not thinking about your gear. You are thinking about your dog. What does that mean?!..
The functional wardrobe: the core pieces
Base layer. Lightweight, breathable, comfortable for active movement.
The dog training vest. The piece every serious trainer reaches for first. Multiple deep pockets, fast treat access, with personalisation available. In the UK, the MALIKO dog training gilet has become the default choice for handlers who want both function, style, and a brand they are proud to wear.
The dog training hoodie. For the training sessions and days when you want a layer without the full coat. The MALIKO Dog Training Hoody at features a waterproof back pocket and two waterproof front pockets, which are the details that are unique to us as a brand.
Polar fleece. The mid-layer for cold days. Pairs with the coat in winter or works alone in cool autumn weather, with one of our training vests over the top.
The waterproof dog walking coat. The investment piece. The MALIKO Waterproof Training Jacket is for long walks in all weather, but mainly for daily, active training sessions. The Waterproof Sherpa Robe Coat is for warmth-first days. Both built specifically for handlers. Whether its long days on the trial fields or your daily car park sessions, we have the products that make your sessions go from average, to amazing.
Outfit ideas by season
Summer. Training top plus summer gilet. If it is warm, that is all you need. Light, unrestrictive, fully pocketed for treats and toys. The MALIKO summer gilet is cut for breathability in warm weather, because of its custom mesh body and super light weight material.
Early autumn. Base layer (polar fleece?), the original dog training vest, and then the training hoody for later in the day. The layer-up option: unzip the gilet between exercises, keeping both on for all the pocket access throughout.
Late autumn and spring. Gilet over a hoodie or fleece or the Training Jacket over a base layer for wet days. The goal is adaptability - being able to remove a layer when you warm up without losing your pocket system.
Winter. Full kit: base layer, fleece or hoodie as mid-layer, Training Jacket or Sherpa Robe on top. Fleece-lined hand warmer pockets in the coats become non-negotiable when it is in the minus'!
Training sessions vs casual walks - what changes
For a casual walk, the outfit priority is comfort and weather protection. A MALIKO hoodie and gilet covers most days.
For a training session, add the belt. The Training Belt completes the hands-free setup and gives you dedicated treat or toy access that does not rely on digging into a coat pocket mid-exercise.
The training coat is the piece that bridges both uses. You wear it to walk, you wear it to train, and it holds up to both.

Styling the MALIKO look
MALIKO is built on the idea that serious dog owners deserve gear that is both functional and sharp. The aesthetic is not country clothing and it is not generic outdoor - it is specifically, a dog training brand, with a clean look that works at a training ground, a show, or just a morning walk.
Black works for everything. New colours are coming - but the current black range layers cleanly and looks professional in any context.
Also, did you know that you can now ersonalise your gilets? Your name or your dog's name on the vest is a small detail that makes the whole setup feel like yours. Or, if you want to go bigger, you can have your logo printed or embroidered on the back pocket. Contact personalise@malikodogs.com.
